I have to say first, this was an amazing concert experience. Definitely the best I've ever been to. It started out a little disappointing b/c it turned out Justin Townes Earle hurt his hand and would not be playing. In any case the two opening acts they did have were pretty good. Although I did keep checking the time every 5-10 minutes b/c I was anxiously awaiting CYH to take the stage.
I don't even know what else to say, but they were incredible. No other band/musician sounds better live, imho, than the DCX and now the CYH do. They are just ridiculously good on their instruments and add more of their instrumentals to their live music, not to mention they are great singers. Some ppl I always wonder how they became famous b/c live their voices aren't very good. Definitely not a problem for Emily, Martie (and of course Natalie when it's the DCX). I love that about them. If I could just buy live versions of their cds I totally would.
Emily and Martie are also really good at talking between songs, and funny. Makes me hope they'll do a bit more talking if the DCX ever tour again. I love Nat, but it makes it feel more like all 3 are involved when they're all talking to the crowd.
Anyway, back to the concert, we were front and center, right in front of Emily at the gate. Amazing spot to be. Everything seemed so effortless and they seemed to be having a ball on stage. A couple songs I didn't know, and they didn't sing Gracefully by Martie, but otherwise I think they did about every song on the album. I was a little surprised when they said "goodnight", b/c I was like, "wait! they didn't do the coast", lol. But they came back out, and Martie was like, "Well I'm glad you all want a few more b/c we had the encore songs built into the set list" or something like that. Finally they did a last song w/Emily's kids on stage. That was cute. Future CYH and/or DCX in the making?
Totally well worth the drive up and leave from work. If you have a chance to see them, definitely take it! I was so impressed I bought tickets to their Lilith Fair show in MD this Tuesday. Since I don't know any of the other people on the tour, I was a little hesitant, but I had to get them b/c I can't wait for another hour of CYH live
