I have been a fan of the DC since they came on the Country Music circuit. Moreso, of Martie and Emily simply because they are the 'creator' in my eyes, of the Dixie Chicks.
Music has been a part of my life since I can remember. And it was country music at home, in dad's car, at the cottage etc. You name it, it was country. I am 1 year older than Martie but when I first heard their music, I had no idea at that time who they really were and that they were both close to my age.
Anyways, as the years went on, everytime I heard them on the radio, I would stop and listen, absorb, and ponder. Simon did an excellent job I must say. So, as I was saying, years went on and I grew up, got married, had 2 girls of my own, 10 years later, seperated. My oldest and I took guitar lessons and although I am a man, I loved to learn some of the DC music I could get my hands on.
In any event, I met a lady, we got engaged, and decided to build a home. A few nasty things happened (I basically was played and lost everything..) Well I loved her and never saw this coming till that day, Oct 6th 2010. Well, 4 days after, I heard "Without You" on the radio and BOOM. That was it.
Although my emotions were on a rollercoaster ride since the 6th of October, that song managed to keep me sain. It has helped me get through, what I would say, was the (and still is the) toughest time of my life.
I understand that the DC are not presently together in the limelight but I know they still are together in some form. But I NEED to thank them for this.
The Court Yard Hounds aka Emily, Martie and band, need to know that what they recorded a few yeas back, did have a positive impact on this Canadian. I have seen the documentry 'Shut up and sing' and that has made me so close to you beautiful ladies, it is beyond me why I did not try to contact you sooner. I guess something needed to occur in my life before this message goes out to you .
If I could just talk to you in person, send you a personal email, hear your voice at the end of the phone, just once! .....
Can you thank Natalie for me as well? She has had a big impact on this too and I cannot forget her.
The three of you made me who I am today and I need to thank you in person. To meet you, would be a God send but I wont count my chickens.. lol
Thank you again... for being you!
Mike
