I'm a fan (and you should be too) because...
I love good music, not the poppy trashy stuff that gets manufactured and tossed on to the shelves and iTunes download chart and all sounds the same or a rehash of something that was original before it.
Emily and Martie represent what I LOVE about music. They are musicians, they can play their own instruments, write beautiful music, and sing it beautifully as well. In many ways they are what you would call, like someone in the theatre world, a triple threat. They can do it all (I don't know about dancing and acting though, which are the other two threats in theatre land...) any way, I have loved these sisters since I discovered the Dixie Chicks and have been a true fan since then and that was when 'Wide Open Spaces' was released. I have done my very best to follow their careers and have been very lucky to see them perofrm with Natalie Maines as the Dixie Chicks when they performed in London and although I amy not have been present at the infamous 2003 performance at Shepards Bush, I wish I was! I saw them at the Royal Albert Hall, I still have my ticket. It was the first concert I had ever been to, I think I was just a few months over 22 years old and my mum went with me, as not too many of my friends are fans of country music. We had a blast, even my mum, who is not the biggest country music fan, had a great evening. She enjoyed the music and thought straight away that Emily's voice was beautiful. I had the best time seeing a band I very much admire, even more so after the 'incident' I was proud to be a fan and I still am. When the DCX returned to Shephards Bush so did I, with their then new album 'Taking The Long Way', the film crew for their Rockumentary and all the fans buzzing with excitement I again had the best time ever, even if I was sat in the 'Gods' watching, it was magic! I even bought two of the special, limited edition T-Shirts.
It wasn't always easy being a DCX fan when so many people were trashing three great women for speaking up and out at a time when we needed people to. There were some feirce arguments on the different message boards I can tell you! Then there was the Grammys...
I am a fan because I listen to the music. It's like an old friend, it comes in sweeps me off my feet and carries me away and I adore it. There are not many artist I feel this passionately about but these strong, beautiful, talented women are special and I shall continue to follow their music because I know it will be good, if not great!
Re: Martie interviews with Out.com
Great interview Martie! I am so jealous of you that you got to meet Cher! She is another of my music heroes and you got to meet and talk with her!! Lucky!
I read with great interest what you had to say in answer to all questions and just so you and Emily know, in case you didn't all ready. I am a fan of the Court Yard Hounds and Dixie Chicks. I always have been and always will be, I agreed with and supported you throughout the entire 'incident' - may be it has something to do with the fact I'm English?! Not sure but may be...
