Back in the Dixie Chicks days...
I was in 6th grade when I had the joy of going to my second Dixie Chicks show. (My first was in 2nd grade with my dad. I begged him to take me.) My parents hadn't told us where our seats were located until we were in the United Center. They handed my sister, cousin, and I our tickets and said enjoy the show and walked over to the escalators. We glanced at our tickets; we were sitting in the 2nd row off of the stage! I had the time of my life waving to Emily and Martie throughout the show. Emily glanced down and smiled at me a few times. Then, towards the end of the show one of the roadies handed me the drum sticks from the show. He reached across my cousin and handed me them. I was in shock. Afterwards when I showed my aunt and parents I just started crying. I was so entirely happy. It was the highlight of my summer, and at the time the highlight of my life. I was beyond thrilled that out of the entire crowd, I was chosen to be given such an extraordinary gift. They still to this day are proudly displayed in a shadow box in my room. (The photo is of me (on left) and my cousin (right) holding the drumsticks in the United Center parking lot.) I will never forget that concert. Thanks Emily and Martie.
